5 Star Hotels: Very inexpensive lodging may be had all over France, and I do not refer solely to Youth Hostel lodging, available to members in all coun¬tries. Consider Paris first. The government tourist department lists about one thousand hotels in the capital and several hundred of these are in the 1-star category, meaning that they charge from $1 to $1.30 for a single room with running water, $1.5 Star Hotels0 to $2 for a double, usually with but one wide bed. Each star-category, and they go up to four stars before reach¬ing the outer space of L, for Luxury, is subdivided into A, B and C.
The elimination of the neutron-star hypothesis for the Crab nebula was a disappointing blow to those who hoped to find direct observational evidence for the existence of such highly collapsed objects. Newer estimates of the rate of cooling of a neutron star now indicate that its high-temperature, X-ray emitting phase is very short-lived—probably less than a year. The chance of observing a hot neutron star is therefore very slim. But, as will be discussed below, the neutron star concept has become a part of some new models of X-ray sources, even after the neutron star is relatively old and cool. |
