Icelandic Kroner:

Icelandic Kroner When Your Dollars Turn to Kroner The Danish krone, plurS kroner, is geared very closely to the British shilling, meaning that it is worth a little over 14 cents and that seven of it, roughly speaking, equal $1. The krone is subdivided into 100 0re. (The Danish 0 is pronounced like 6.) Coins, mostly of brassy composition, are in denominations running from 1 0re to 2 kroner, the 2-kroner piece being a good-sized tawny cartwheel; and the notes, of junior dimensions, run from 5 to 500 kroner.

When Vow Dollars Turn to Kroner Norway's unit of currency is the krone, plural kroner, and it is at present tied exactly to the British shilling, meaning that it is worth 14 cents. It is divided into 100 0re, which word forces us to cope more fully with Norway's (and Denmark's) odd-looking letter, the o with an ambassador's crossbar, the stripe having the same effect as an umlaut in German. Coins come in denominations of 1 0re to 1 krone and notes from 5 to 100 kroner.

4, 5. icelandic kroner Art, Ancient and Modern The National Art Gallery, a splendid modern building, houses icelandic kroner treasures dating back, in some cases, to about 900. There are beautiful wood carvings, finely fashioned drinking horns, Viking Ornaments in various materials and early ecclesiastical vestments and works of religious art. There is one original sculpture by Bertel Thorvaldsen, whose father was an icelandic kroner wood carver.
