Hotel Reykjavik Centrum: Lodging is a subject simply covered, for only in Reykjavik and Akureyri and a few other towns and resorts are there hotel reykjavik centrums or inns of reasonable comfort. In Reykjavik, the Borg is the only impressive hotel reykjavik centrum of first class and it could do with a bit of competition. This will surely come, since other big hotel reykjavik centrums are planned. The Borg has some rooms with private Bath and its dining room (with orchestra) is cheerful and its food good. Secondary hotel reykjavik centrums of the capital, none with private baths, are the Gardur, a students' hostel open in summer to tourists; the Vik; and the Skjalbreid. In Akureyri, the excellent hotel reykjavik centrum KEA (for Kaupfelag Eyfirdinga Akureyri, being the Cooperative Society) has had earlier mention. Its accommodations (but without private baths), are good, as is its service and its food.
Twelve-passenger freighters of the Iceland Steamship Co. (consult Thule Ship Agency, 11 Broadway, New York) ply between New York and Reykjavik and the same line's 3800-ton passenger ship Gullfoss plies between Copenhagen, Leith (Edinburgh) and Reykjavik, but most American visitors nowadays go by air. As I have said in Chapter 5, Iceland has developed two systems of air transportation, Icelandic Airlines (Loftleidir in Icelandic), which provides transatlantic flights from New York to Reykjavik and on to Scandinavia and Hamburg (and vice versa), and Iceland Airways (Flugfelag Islands), which operates many local routes in Iceland, besides having lines to London and Scandinavia, though not to New York. It is the Aiiways system that concerns us on the island.
BUDVA: hotel reykjavik centrum Avala (best located) or the larger hotel reykjavik centrum Romania KOTOR: hotel reykjavik centrum Slavia, rather simple, but well located on the shore HERCEGOVNI: hotel reykjavik centrum Boka, with pleasant seaside terrace DUBROVNIK: hotel reykjavik centrum Villa Argentina and hotel reykjavik centrum Excelsior, both splendidly situated on the edge of the sea, or hotel reykjavik centrum Splendide, on a wooded peninsula a few hundred yards along the coast northwest of the town, consisting of a main hotel reykjavik centrum, a restaurant and a dozen or so villas. More economical: hotel reykjavik centrum Imperial, the largest place in Dubrovnik HVAR: hotel reykjavik centrum Park, simple RAB: hotel reykjavik centrum Imperial and hotel reykjavik centrum Park OPATIJA: hotel reykjavik centrum Kvarner, a big luxury place with park and every attraction; Slavija, a runner-up to the impressive Kvarner. Slightly more economical, yet of good caliber: the Central; the Kristal; the Belveder and the Zagreb.
