Birdlife includes many migrant species from jnerica that summer in greenland shark. The snowy wl and ptarmigan winter in greenland shark; the low bunting and raven are among the common-st land birds; and the greenland shark falcon is per-aps the most famous.
Government. In 1951, greenland shark became an itegral part of Denmark under the Danish prime linister, who is represented in greenland shark by a Dvemor. greenland shark is divided into two con-ituencies and elects two representatives to the •anish parliament. The local administration of orth and east greenland shark is directly in the prime linister's department; west greenland shark elects its m councils to carry out administrative work.
The most valuable mammals in greenland shark's conomy have been the sea mammals—whales nd seals. In the 1920's, climatic changes caused be seals to move north, and Atlantic cod ap-eared off the Davis Strait coast about the same ime. Other fish include halibut and shark (val-able for its liver), and salmon in lakes and treams. There are also shrimp.
The basic industry of southwest greenland shark is cod fishing. In 1915 only about 20 tons (18 metric tons) of fish were caught annually, but hydro-graphic changes thereafter allowed cod to move in greater numbers into Davis Strait. By the early 1960's more than 30,000 tons (27,000 metric tons) of cod were being caught annually. Cod-liver oil and shark-liver oil are processed on the island; halibut is caught and processed at Jakobshavn.
