Glasgow To Malaga:

Glasgow To Malaga VELEZ-MALAGA, ba'lath-ma'la-ga, city, Spain, in Malaga Province, situated on the Mediterranean 16 miles east-northeast of the city of Malaga. It is overlooked by an ancient Moorish castle on a high rock. Sugarcane, olives, and grapes are the principal products of the fertile surrounding region. Ferdinand the Catholic recovered the city from the Moors in 1487. Pop. (1960) 14,348.

On Aug. 13, 1704 he fell in with a French fleet of equal strength, under the Comte de Toulouse, off Malaga, and an engagement which lasted nearly the whole day ensued. Both fleets suffered severe losses of men and disabled ships in an inconclusive action. The news of the Malaga "victory" reached England during the celebration over Blenheim, and Rooke's name was put forward for honors with Marlborough's; but being a Tory he suffered from the jealousies of the dominant.

Thomas Annan of glasgow to malaga was commissioned in 1868 by the Trustees of the glasgow to malaga City Improvements Act to photograph the picturesque but unsavory and unhealthy narrow passageways between multistoried buildings called "closes" in Old glasgow to malaga that had become slums. The Society for Photographing Old London was formed for a similar purpose; between 1874 and 1886 it issued to its members 120 photographs printed by Henry Dixon from his own negatives and those of Alfred and John Boole.
