Dress clothes, of course, involve extra luggage and since the chances re several to one against your needing them on shore if you are taking a normal oliday tour, you may arrange with the steamship company to hold in storage a rank or suitcase containing this gear, to be picked up on the return trip, for se again on the steamer. Luggage problems, along with the luggage itself, can bus be lightened in Europe by perhaps one-fourth.
Tickets are to be retained, even after being punched, until you reach your destination. Then, in most countries, they are supposed to be taken up by a collector at the exit gate. In some countries, like France, the collectors are firm about this, while in others, such as Italy, they are amazingly casual. If your hands re full of luggage and you breeze right past the collector without a word, he sually looks at you, a bit forlornly, but says and does exactly nothing about it.
LAUNDRY is handled much more swiftly in Europe than it used to be. Twenty-four-hour service, at considerably higher prices than for three-to five-day service, is offered in many of the Continent's top hotels.
LIFE and THEFT INSURANCE, meaning special policies for yourself and your luggage during travel abroad, is one of those advisable things which too few persons too seldom bother with. Luggage insurance against theft or loss can mean much to your peace of mind. Ask your insurance agent about the so-called "All-Risk Tourist Floater." As in the matter of inoculations, I'm a very poor one to give advice on this subject, for in thirty years not one thing, in any country in the world, has ever been stolen from my luggage while it was in transit or in hotels, nor has anything, including open money on my night table, ever been lifted from my room.
